Psychosomatics & Psychotherapy /
Psychosomatics & psychotherapy deals with the interrelationships and mutual influence of the human mind and body. Physical complaints can occur where there is no evidence of sufficient organic findings or psychological disorders that also have a physical effect, such as eating disorders. Physical illnesses and their course can be strongly dependent on the mental state of the person in question.
Psychosomatic & psychotherapeutic medicine is a separate speciality within the spectrum of medical disciplines. An important task is to co-operate with the somatic areas of medicine. Close networking with other service providers in the healthcare system is therefore important, and highly specialised treatment services and low-threshold, regionally available care should be provided.
The aim of the inpatient, day-care and outpatient services offered by the clinics for psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy is to alleviate physical and psychological symptoms and to develop a helpful understanding of the various contexts of their illness with the patient.
